Blackout Poetry

Blackout Poetry is so much fun and so easy to do.
Find an old book, choose a page, select words from the page that reflect your feelings, ideas and thoughts. Blackout all the other words on the page. Use your imagination to find new and exciting ways to blackout the other words.  Black marker is just one, the sky is the limit!!
Ready...set....GO!!!

Too Far

The Trees shake
The world is weary
The gash of the bullet
Has gone too far.

STORIES OF HER HEART

You know what love is?
Children..parents...Mom and Dad
She was writing stories
Her heart was the notebook
(Private Collection)

DOUBT

Her words were a hiss,
Her voice was a shiver.
As she sat there she wondered...
Doubted...
Agonized...
And the worst was yet to come.
(SOLD)

PLASTIC FACADES

I studied a life of plastic facades.
Time and again I saw the same thing,
Tragedy!!

HER TIME

It was time
She used the pain and the heartache.
She needed to write.
She stood and steadied herself...
and fell.

QUESTIONS

A dozen questions left blank
She turned back, her feet passed through the door.
She was running...the door opened.
She started to cry.
Nothing moved her...might have to admit...
I'm not her daughter.

GOD HAD PLANS

Doors were open, God had plans.
The Holy Spirit recalled.
But I had to hang on, He said "There's one more."
That was me.
I turned to make peace with God.
I turned to look all the way up.

LISTEN

I was mad at God
I started praying
He knows without Him I'd be frustrated.
I sense God...don't talk, listen.
It's better if I listen.
Know peace, know God
Accept..trust Him.

A SPARK

Strong opinions about the fires of hell.
Damnation, misery.
God had had enough.
Good would spark a delicious thought,
God would forgive them...((evoL)).

FORGIVENESS

Forgiveness...God help me!!
I no longer hate
I can only change myself
Love our enemies...Trust God
Don't worry...you are beloved children
                   DECEMBER SKY

A wind traveling about in a cool
December sky
swirled into nothingness.
It gave way to a story
deep in her heart.
(SOLD)

IN THE DARK

She sat in the dark and wept.
This was a painful decision.
Her heart pounded...
maybe we're wrong!!!

THE CLOWN

He became the clown;
isolation and loneliness led him
to a solitary world.

DEMONS

Demons played the first round
determined to win.

SHORTCOMINGS

Thanks for noticing
my shortcomings!!!

NERVES

Once again my nerves
were just too fragile.
I knew I was hovering
near the END!!!

UGLY MONEY

The politicians knew of the
ugliness of money...
there will be precious little
to show for it.
(Private Collection)
DRUMBEAT

Another drumbeat, this one
was no different...
tough...
troubled...
disturbed!!
BEHIND THE SHADOWS

A framed photo locked
Their faces together.
The two of them laughing
Behind the shadows.

BATTLES

Like anyone else
I face battles of
human weakness
And faint heart.
(SOLD)

MADNESS

Look upon the madness
On the ridge of today.

KEEPSAKE

The briefest moment;
Different lives.
His voice...
Her heart...
Tears...
And a keepsake.
(Private Collection)

RED WHITE BLACK AND BLUE

The crowd needs someone,
NOW!
A bright spot on the
Roadmap to teach
The next generation.
PLEASE!

SERVICE

Boys became men.
Their courage paid
for my ordinary life.

DIVINE INTERVENTION

The news came...
My life ceased...
He took over.

    1. Hello BIBI,
Thank you so much for your kind words, I am so glad that my art has touched you so deeply. One of my favorite quotes on art is by Kojiro Tomita..."It has been said that art is a tryst, for in the joy of it maker and beholder meet." So happy to meet you. I have added more so I hope you will return to view them. Thanks again for your encouraging words.
      Peace,

Unfortunately I do not know where I got the page for the December Sky piece. I always take the page out of the book and sometimes the book gets thrown away. Sorry!

  6. Hi Elys,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I really hope you give Blackout Poetry a try. It is one of the most enjoyable ways to blend the visual arts with the literary arts. Some of the pieces have been sold and some were given as gifts, those are marked (private collection). The others are for sale. Thanks again for visiting my blog, I just finished a new piece, it is at the top of this page.
    Peace,
